A huge thank you

The children have had a wonderful week and I'm quite sure they will remember their time in Torgon forever. I have hundreds of photos taken throughout the week so when these are sorted, I can transfer them to a USB stick with big capacity for you to have. Thank you for your kind comments which the children have enjoyed hearing. Now, for the long journey home and they are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Thursday 8th March

The beautiful weather returned today, as we were blessed with blue skies and perfect snow conditions.

The kids spent the day consolidating the skills they have learned throughout the week, with our new skiers practising their parallel turns and taking on the technical skill of sideslipping. Our returner skiers have been trying out new tricks, with some of them mastering the art of the 360 turn - looking very cool in the process!

Sadly our terrific week is nearing its end, and the kids are all packed and ready to go home after their final day of skiing tomorrow.

A torch light walk through the woods

La vache holding the torch!

Wednesday 7th March

Wednesday marked an action packed day, as all groups travelled further across the mountains. Our returner group journeyed past Chatel and to the resort of Linga, showing off some mightily impressive skiing along the way. Our beginner groups skied for the first time with poles and began to master the art of the parallel turn, as they skied across the French border.

Somehow the kids maintained their energy and exerted as much enthusiasm into the evening disco as they do into their skiing. They won the adoration of the secondary school pupils and stole the show with their seriously impressive dance moves!

The answers to yesterday's questions:
  1. Who managed to do their first parallel turn stop whilst they only had one ski - impressively within eyeshot of their instructor and two members of staff? This was Lucy Stephens who is making fantastic progress in her beginner group.
  2. Who managed to turn a fall into a stuntman-esque cartwheel back onto their skis? This was Sam Hepp - who has affectionately been nicknamed 'Yo-yo' by his instructor due to the incredible way he falls down and bounces straight back.
  3. Who were the most majestic skaters at the roller disco? This was Conrad, Josh D and Oliver.

Tuesday 6th March

Two days of blue skies and sunshine sadly had to come to an end, as we were unfortunately faced with sleet, snow and soggy conditions today. However, the kids were resolute and didn't let the weather dampen their enthusiasm, high spirits or the fantastic progress they're making with their skiing.

The returner group practiced drills to hone their technique under the watchful eye of their brilliant instructor Stefano, whilst both of our beginner groups came on leaps and bounds and are expected to pick up their poles tomorrow!

Some mid-trip questions:
  • Who managed to do their first parallel turn stop whilst they only had one ski - impressively within eyeshot of their instructor and two members of staff?
  • Who managed to turn a fall into a stuntman-esque cartwheel back onto their skis?
  • Who were the most majestic skaters at the roller disco?

Monday 5th March

The children continue to make lots of progress on the slopes and have had another great day on the slopes.  Woody and Harvey have made it to the top ski group with the secondary group and are making it look easy! Our returning skiers have come on so much since last year and are enjoying skiing to France and developing their parallel turns. Instructors Andy and Gabriel are developing the confidence of our beginners, gradually introducing them to steeper terrain and new lifts. Sunny again but tomorrow snow, sleet and cloud are forecast!
